What is the Player Briefing?

• The player briefing is a video that explains all the essential information to players allowing them to prepare for the game prior to starting. 
• These videos can be viewed from the Platform Briefing Platform.
• Player briefings include:
  • Game Backstory
  • How to use your weapon
  • Any specific game mechanics (e.g. how to pick up special weapons)
  • Death and respawning
  • Scoring
  • Waypoints
  • In-game safety

Trailers promoting Space Marine VR

For all games except Engineerium, a quick promotional trailer of Space Marine VR will play when you select to play the briefing video.

While the video is playing it will show a 'Briefing plays soon' in the bottom right of the screen, so that players are aware this is just only promotional content.

This can be skipped, if you are pressed for time or running multiple games with the same group. See the How to use the Player Briefing platform for controls.

Where can I access the Player Briefing?

The new platform can be accessed from the Briefing link on the Session page in the Portal.

We recommend you copy the URL and add it to your device for player briefings.

You only need the one link, as you can easily and quickly cycle through videos on the platform.

 

How to use the Player Briefing Platform

The platform provides briefing videos for all games you have installed.

Once you accessed the platform, you can simply cycle through the videos by using either:

Presentation clicker	Keyboard
Before clicking play: Left/Right to change videos Left bottom moves to Language menu and then Resolution menu Bottom right selects option or plays video After clicking play: Left arrow starts video again Right arrow play/pause/skip pre-briefing trailer Left bottom closes video (back to slides) Bottom right (no input)	Before clicking play: Left/Right to change videos ESC to move to Language menu and then Resolution menu Space selects option or plays video After clicking play: Left arrow skips backwards Right arrow skips forwards Space to pause/play video Enter to skip pre-briefing Trailer ESC to return to the video select menu

How to set up on Front of House computer

1. Open the Video Briefing Platform from the Portal, selecting the link from the Sessions page
2. Copy and paste the above URL into a new tab on Chrome
3. Click on the 3 dots on the top right of Chrome which will open a menu
4. Click on Settings
   
5. Click on On start-up on the left side menu
6. Select the Open a specific page or set of pages toggle
7. Click on Use current pages
   
8. Close the tab and the briefing will be available on the added Chrome tab

What languages are available?

We are looking to produce translated video briefings for all new games, and have some translations of our previous titles.

How do I set the language?

The system will automatically select based on the language you have selected in the Portal, but if you want to change that (for a specific customer group) click the bottom left button on the Presentation Clicker (or press ESC on the keyboard) and you will be presented with the ability to select language. 

How do I set the resolution?

We offer three resolution options, 1080p, 720p, and 576p.

The default resolution for videos is 720p.

If your venue has a slower internet connection or is experiencing bandwidth limitations, you can select a lower resolution video.

Changing the resolution

To change resolution, press the bottom left button on the Presentation Clicker (or press ESC on the keyboard) twice and you will be presented with the ability to select from three resolutions.

The benefits of the Player Briefing Video

• Better player understanding: Video is a better communication medium than slides and allows us to show much better examples to players to help their understanding.

• Quicker briefings: Briefings from slides can take from 5 - 10 minutes. We’ve made the briefing shorter at just 3 minutes, through the use of visuals and our team refining the script. That’s a saving of 3-7 minutes!

• Frees up the Game Master: Game Master now gets 3 minutes back to use to prepare for the session.

• Consistency: A consistent way to deliver the information, which we can optimise and roll out new versions.

• Trailer to promote our upcoming release: A short trailer for Space Marine VR will automatically play and promote awareness for players in venue.

Experiencing buffering issues?

If you are experiencing buffering issues you should reduce the resolution, unless you can improve the quality of your internet connection to the TV.

So if you are currently on 1080p, reducing to 720p can help.
