Headset Tracking Camera Alignment Calibration Test Follow
HTC Focus 3 and Focus Vision headsets use images captured by their four tracking cameras to determine their position in 3D space. Over time, normal wear, bumps, or minor manufacturing variations can cause these cameras to become slightly misaligned, leading to reduced tracking accuracy.
To maintain reliable tracking, the headset automatically performs a headset camera alignment calibration process in the background. While the headset is in use, it captures image samples from each camera. When the headset is later idle, it analyzes these images to calculate and correct the alignment of the tracking cameras.
This process is computationally intensive and typically takes 15 minutes to complete. The headset must be connected to power or have more than 50% battery for the alignment to finish successfully.
The headset camera alignment calibration process must be completed before scanning a new spatial map or updating an existing one to ensure accurate map data and consistent tracking performance.
To validate a Headset's Camera Alignment Calibration:
Clean the cameras using a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove any dust or grime.
Power on the headset and ensure it gains tracking within the game space.
For about 30 seconds, look in all directions — up, down, left, right, and behind — to capture a variety of environmental data.
Put the headset to sleep using the power button.
Connect the headset to power (or ensure the battery is above 50%) and leave it idle for at least 15 minutes to complete the headset camera alignment calibration process.
Note: In the case where two or more attempts at this process result in a message "Rotation degree between new extrinsics and origin extrinsics too large.", the affected HMD will need to be sent to HTC for repair.
Technical: Headset camera alignment calibration progress can also be monitored:
1 - Connect the headset to the GM station via USB-C
2 - Visiting the headset setup tool
3 - Press 'Camera Alignment' button
