- Remove the rear foam pad from the back of the headset.
- Remove the Focus 3 battery from its internal packaging. The battery box displays how to fit the battery into the headset.
- Insert the battery into the headset.
Note
You will know that you have inserted the battery correctly when the battery clicks into place.
- Once you have confirmed the battery is in place, re-attach the rear foam pad.
Note
It is recommended to charge the headset prior to the initial setup to prevent it from running out of power mid-setup.
- Remove the AC adapter from the box containing the HTC VIVE Focus 3 Virtual Reality Headset.
- Connect the AC adapter to your Focus 3.
- Connect the AC adapter to your power outlet.
- It is also possible to charge the batteries without them being attached to the headset.
- To check the battery level, press the power button once and the LEDs will display the current level.
Warning
Charging the headset while in use is not recommended.
- Remove the left-hand tracker or wrist tracker and the USB C Splitter cable - The tracker may be located in another box.
- Plug the hand/wrist tracker into the HMD with the USB C splitter cable.
Important
The headset must be turned on to charge the tracker.
Warning
Be careful when handling the headset from this point onwards - the USB C cable is short and it is easy to drop the trackers.
You can also charge the trackers with your own USB charger. The charger should have an output of at least 10 watts.

Note
It is required to charge the tracker prior to the initial setup. Once operational, they will be charged from the gun controller directly, but for initial setup, it is recommended they be charged for a minimum of 30 minutes to ensure a sufficient charge to complete the setup process.
Apply the ID Labels
Use a microfiber cloth to clean the front visor surface so there is no dust or residue. These can be found in the Service Technicians Kit.
Select one of the numbered labels and peel off the paper backing.
Apply the label on the front of the headset. If re-alignment is required, the label can be peeled off and re-applied.
Once applied, use your finger to push out any large bubbles. For smaller bubbles, it is recommended to use a plastic card.
- Find the smaller numbered stickers which are located in the Service Technicians Kit.
- Select the same number sticker that was placed on the front of the headset and apply one sticker to the top of the headset and one on the left tracker.
Apply the Battery Alignment Sticker
- Find the battery alignment sticker which is located in the Service Technicians Kit.
- Remove the rear foam pad.
- Take one Battery Alignment sticker and place it on the bottom of the headset so it aligns with the notch on the battery.
- Place the rear foam pad back onto the headset.
Attach the Headphones
- The following equipment will be required for this next step:
- Razer Kraken X Headphones
- Left and Right Mounting Headphone Clips (ZL-03-14-02)
- HTC Vive Focus 3 Headset
- Headphone Headband Protector
- Start by removing all the contents from the Razer Kraken X Headphones box and leave this aside for the time being.
New Headphone/clip Variations - If you have version 2.0 clips (labelled ZL-03-14-02B on the inside of the clips), use this guide

or - If attaching Edifier Noise Cancelling Headphones (ZL-03-14-05), use this guide:
How to attach Edifier Headphones using Headphone Adapter Kit (ZL-03-14-06)
- With the Headset, fully extend it using the adjustment knob located on the back of the headset. Alternatively, you can hold the button down on the underside of the adjustment knob and extend it.
- Attach the left and right mounting clips to the straps of the Headset, making sure that the cable wrap sections are on the top section of the Headset strap, facing towards the front area of the Headset.
- Fully extend the Headphones and mount them over the Mounting Clips that were attached to the Headset.
- Take hold of the Headphone cable and press this into the cable insert on the side of the Mounting Clip. This should be inserted on the same side clip that it is closest to.
Danger
Ensure you leave a small amount of slack to the cable connection point on the Headphones, otherwise, you may cause damage and reduce the longevity of the Headphones.
- With the cable in hand, complete 2 figure 8s over the extended section of the Mounting Clip, making sure this is tight and firm. If it is too loose, this may easily come apart during operations requiring the installation to be completed again.
- Route the cable on the inside of the Headphones above the Headset strap and press this into the cable insert on the opposite side of the Mounting Clip.
- From here, you can route the cable under the Headset strap over the front hygiene cover and through the adjustment velcro. The cable should be resting on top of the front hygiene cover.
- Proceed to move the cable to the opposite Mounting clip, passing through the back underside of the Headset strap and pressing this into the cable insert. Ensure there is enough slack to allow the cable to route from the front of the Headset over the top hygiene cover instead of being pulled directly over to the cable insert.
- Complete 2 figure 8s over the extended sections of the Mounting Clip, making sure this is tight and firm, then press this into the cable insert on the front section of the Mounting Clip. If it is too loose, this may easily come apart during operations requiring the installation to be completed again.
- Finally, route the cable under the Headset strap and connect it to the AUX connection.
Once the assembly of the headphones to the headset is complete, remove the headphone protector from the plastic sleeve.
Extend the earcups of the headphones, then place the headband protector underneath the headband, smooth side facing upwards.
Wrap the headband protector around the headband, then do up the zip on the headband protector.
Twist the headband protector so the zip is now underneath the headband.
Compress earcups of headphones to complete installation.
