How do I update the GTM Container Version? Follow
Introduction
From time to time, Zero Latency may release updates to its GTM container template which will result in a need or a benefit in venues updating their GTM configuration. This guide explains how to perform that update without damaging any custom components that a client may have configured.
This document requires users to have the GA4 Measurement ID, Meta Pixel ID, and Google Ads Conversion IDs and Conversion Labels handy to complete the steps laid out in this document.
Update the Container version
- Login to Google Tag Manager.
- Click Admin.
- Click Import Container.
- Select Choose Container File and select the new version of the container file (the current container version is 3.2 found here)
- Select Existing and Default Workspace.
Warning
See the venue marketing contact if more than one workspace is listed.
- Select Merge.
- Review the actions it will perform and ensure none of it is destructive.
- You will likely have to deselect the constant variables to stop them overwriting to the defaults
- Click Confirm.
- Review each of the changes made.
- Within your container, go to Variables and find the below variables, and update the variables with the asset IDs:
The Conversion ID is the same for all Conversions created within the same account.

- If you are setting up Google Ads conversions as well, you will need to update the Conversion Labels that are used within the Google Ads Conversion Tags. To do this, you can follow these instructions How do I import Google Analytics 4 Conversion into Google Ads?
- The conversion labels will be provided to you within the Google Ads interface when creating The Google Ads conversions. Follow these instructions How can I set up Conversions in Google Ads? to create the conversions within Google Ads.
- If the conversions have already been created, you can retrieve the Conversion IDs and labels from within Google Ads by following these instructions How can I find my Google Ads Conversion ID and Conversion Label?
- If you are setting up Google Ads conversions as well, you will need to update the Conversion Labels that are used within the Google Ads Conversion Tags. To do this, you can follow these instructions How do I import Google Analytics 4 Conversion into Google Ads?
- Preview and Publish as per normal.
