Vive Focus Vision - How to trigger an IPD adjustment - Automatically detect distance between eyes

Introduction

The HTC Vive Focus Vision can detect IPD (the distance between both eyes) for maximum clarity. This is to be triggered by the user or by a GM.

IPD Adjustment on the Focus Vision

The Focus Vision has been programmed to automatically adjust the IPD when the player first puts on the headset after a few seconds. It has also been programmed to trigger an IPD adjustment again if the headset has not been worn for more than 20 seconds.

When an adjustment is taking place, the wearer is presented with a black screen with small animated circles in the center. The wearer must stare at the small animated circles for a few seconds, so that the eye tracking cameras make an accurate assessment for IPD adjustment positioning.



Once the IPD adjustment is complete, the black screen will disappear.

If a wearer mentions that their vision is not clear, even after an auto IPD adjustment, then the player can trigger another IPD adjustment themselves by pressing the button on the left side of the headset or an IPD adjustment can also be triggered from the GM screen.

Reminder: You should tell customers that when they first put on their headset, to stare at the circle in the middle of the screen to help the headset automatically adjusts their focus. If it's unclear after the adjustment has completed, you can press the side button to trigger another adjustment.

Note: If the headset can't find the correct IPD adjustment value the first time, it will try again 4 more times. If there is still no success, the GM will be prompted with a warning message "Eye Spacing Error". The user should remove the headset, then put the headset back on and press the side button to try again. This could also happen if the user is wearing glasses.

Player Self Trigger IPD Adjustment

Players can trigger an Auto IPD adjustment themselves, by pressing the button on the left side of the Focus Vision headset.

• • The adjustment will take a few seconds, and if the user isn't happy with the results they can push it again

Note: The player will be in a black environment whist the IPD adjustment takes place, and then will be brought back into the correct environment.

How to trigger an Auto IPD Adjustment from the GM

GM's can trigger an Auto IPD adjustment from the GM

• Hovering over the players name, to reveal extra controls.
• Press "Detect Eye Spacing" button to trigger an Auto IPD adjustment for the player.
  • The adjustment will take a few seconds, and if the user isn't happy with the results they can ask for it again.

Note: The player will be in a black environment whist the IPD adjustment takes place, and then will be brought back into the correct environment.

Known Issues

User may see Shut Down/Restart UI 

• This UI element may be seen if the user holds the button on the left side of the HMD for too long
• As eye tracking is used in this state, it is possible for the user to accidentally shut down or reboot the HMD, if they look at those options for a few seconds

Resolution

• User can press and hold the button on the left side once again until the user is back in the game (this restarts the ZL software running on the HMD)

Eye spacing error

• If the headset can't find the correct IPD adjustment value the first time, it will try again 4 more times. If there is still no success, the GM will be prompted with a warning message "Eye Spacing Error".

Resolution

• The user should remove the headset, then put the headset back on and press the side button to try again. This could also happen if the user is wearing glasses.
