How do I update the game space map? (Gen 3)

Introduction

If you have a tracking problem in a certain area of the game space or if the game space has changed considerably.

The map may need to be updated or completely re-scanned. Follow these steps to learn how to complete the update process.

Prepare the Equipment & Environment

• Clear the space of any obstructions before starting the scan.
• You will now need to recalibrate your game space after the map update.

The centre point will be the best area in the space to gain initial tracking.

Equipment

• Select any assembled HTC Headset and have this ready to be turned on.
• Map Update is only available for Headsets which have the below firmware or greater:
  • Focus Vision 7.0.999.344
  • Focus 3 6.0.999.1010

Warning

Make sure no other headsets are powered on.

• Remove the corresponding HTC Tracker from the controller and keep this close to the game space, ready to use.

Note

If you are updating a map scan for floor height issues, please perform a fresh map calibration.

Update Existing Map

• Power on the HTC Headset.
• Wait for the headset to load into the Launcher.
• Stand in the game space at the point where you want to update the map.
• On the game master Launcher, hover over settings and select Hardware.
• On the headset you are completing the spatial map with, click Details.
• Click on Manage Headset Map.

• Click on Update existing map
  • Note: You will need to ensure the headset has tracking.

The headset will begin scanning.

• Walk around the areas of the Game Space which need their tracking improved.
• Recommended to look at those areas from different angles and directions, for 3-5 minutes for each section.

When completed, press Finish Map Update.

The headset will start building the map on that headset, getting it ready for exportation.

When the map has finished building:

• Press Export map to all headsets

The map will now export to the server.

One export has completed, you can now turn on all headsets so that they update to the new map.

You will now need to run the calibrator, and recalibrate your game space.

• Switch to Calibrator experience
• Run through calibration steps to recalibrate your game space

As the map update modifies the map, a recalibration is required for player safety purposes.
