What is the best way to package this game?
How do I get players into the game?
What is the best way to package this game?
- We recommend running two games of Undead Arena as a 30-minute package.
- Players will have the opportunity to 'best' their score in the second round, and play for a spot on the venues leader-boards.
- Undead Arena and Survival can't be packaged together. This is because Survival is an older version of a similar style game, which will affect customer satisfaction.

How does the game work?
Total Game Duration: 13.5 minutes + 1.5-minute buffer (15 minutes)
Minimum Players: 1
Maximum Player: 8
Languages: The game is available in English, Spanish, French, and Japanese.
Info
- Undead Arena is an ‘80s inspired post-apocalyptic game show, in which players battle waves of zombies to become the champions.
- Equal parts frantic, humorous, colourful and exhilarating, there is a focus on teamwork, high scores and leaderboards, making it perfect for first-timers and return players alike.
The Arena
- Players will fight off waves of zombies in the Arena, which consists of two levels.
- Each level has a range of places that zombies can come from to keep players on their toes, while providing defensive traps that players can strategically use to protect themselves.
- They will be eased into the game in the first level, but have to really step up if they want to survive the more challenging second level.
Level 1
- This is an introductory level that is easy for players to understand while offering various platforms for elevation and structures that can be used as cover.
- After four waves of zombies, waypoints will appear for the players to transition up to Level 2. All players must be standing in their waypoints for the lifts to activate.
Level 2
- This level separates the players and offers even higher platforms, making the arena feel much bigger. The threat level is increased as players who are on their own can get into danger and be forced to retreat.
- Players will face two waves of zombies before celebrating their victory as champions of Undead Arena!
Zombies
- Our players can’t be heroes without brain-starved zombies! A lot of effort has gone into making them great to look at... and shoot! Special attention has gone into animation, audio and VFX, so they appear as a hungry and chaotic horde.
- There are two types of zombies in the game: horde zombies and armoured zombies.
Horde Zombie
- These aren’t too deadly on their own, but they come in packs. They are the ‘base’ zombies that come for players from the beginning of the game.
Armoured Zombies
- Wearing a helmet and armour vest, these zombies come in waves later in the game. These zombies a tougher than the horde zombies and take more shots to kill.
- Their heads are protected by a helmet. Players must first shoot this off to take a head shot.
Wave Control
- To embrace the game show vibe, zombies will come in controlled waves from various points on the map. Players will be alerted to this by in-game TV screens, barriers, and an announcer.
- There is a total of six waves. Four on Level 1, and two on Level 2.
- Barriers will go down and light up with a red zombie symbol when zombies will come from this direction.
Weapons
- Players have several easy to understand weapons that have unique uses and feel really good for slaying the undead. (All guns reload automatically, including the shotgun):
| Shotgun | Assault Rifle | Crossbow |
|---|---|---|
| Close Range | Medium Range | Long Range |
- Press the trigger to shoot, use the mode select button to switch weapons
- Players can reload using the button at the bottom of the gun, however, this should only be mentioned if players ask for it.
Traps
- In addition to their weapons, players have access to a range of defensive traps to help them control the waves of undead.
Flame Traps
- There are flame pits and flamethrowers that are triggered by shooting the green targets throughout the map.
Explosive Barriers
- There are also barrels that players can shoot until they explode
Player Avatars
- Each player is assigned cool and unique ‘80s-themed armour, for both male and female avatars.
Death
- Players will die if they take too much damage from zombies.
- The red blurry vision will indicate to players that they are taking damage.
- When a player is dead the world will turn grey and they will see a respawn timer.
- It takes 10 seconds for a player to respawn once they have died (and zombies will feast on their corpse while they wait!).
How do we keep players safe?
Game Rules
- No sitting or lying on the floor
- No alcohol or drugs
- Both hands on the controller at all times
- If you are heavily pregnant or have a serious medical condition, it is highly recommended that you do not play
- This experience may be intense for some players. If the player is overwhelmed, allow them to remove their goggles and raise their hand so the Host/Runner can assist.
Player Proximity Alarm
Info
As of version 1.3.0, the game will now be using Safety 2.0. This means:
- No Yellow barriers
- No player radar
- No Slow Down warning
- No auto-pause for the entire team if a player gets too close to a wall
- New Player boundary walls
- New wall boundaries
- New player cage when the game is paused or a player loses tracking
More information can be found here: Game Safety System
- When a player is too close to another player, a radar will appear on the player's screen. The "green" figure in the middle represents the player's position in the game and the "blue" figure represents another player. When this radar appears, they must step away from the other player to avoid a collision.
- There will be a "red" warning banner "Player Spacing!" and an alarm will sound.
Wall Proximity Alarm
- When too close to a wall, a "red" safety wall will appear with a radar and an alarm will begin to sound. The "green" figure in the middle represents the player position in the game and the "red" line represents the wall. When this radar appears, they must step away from the wall to avoid a collision.
- The game will pause and there will be a "red" warning banner "Watch the Walls" if players get too close.
How do I get players into the game?
- Players must select their profile by shooting their display name. It will show as green when selected.
How does the scoring work?
- Players will have a simple and straightforward system for scoring, making it easy to understand but hard to master in-game.
- To understand when they’ve scored, they will see the points scored rising up from the zombies as they kill them.
| Action | Score |
|---|---|
| Headshot Kills | 150 |
| Zombie Kills (including trap kills) | 100 |
| Assists | 25 |
| Deaths | -500 |

Known Issues v1.0
- Player positions are incorrect on the Portal - Game Masters will need to watch players physically in the space.
- Players may not initially see their gun when they drop out and in of the game - As soon as Game Masters hit play players will see their gun again.
- The introduction and final celebration audio is loud and the most difficult time to speak to players - Game Masters will need to let players enjoy the moment, talking to players once this sequence is finished, unless it is more urgent. In this case they can still attempt to speak, or pause the game if absolutely required.
- Player names and alive/death states do not show on the public spectator machine - Game Masters will need to be aware that friends and family can't identify which player is which until it is fixed.
- The Game Master may become a player in the game when the game is selected (i.e. adding a 9th player) - if this happens a restart of the Launcher will correct this.
-
Changing a player’s language mid-game results in them losing music audio
-
If you change a player’s language while the game is currently playing, they will lose music audio.
-
The workaround is to ensure you only change a player’s language while they are still in the loadout.
